When I first arrived in Hong Kong, I was in debt. This debt was incurred and had been accumulated by my husband for years. After a discussion, we decided that I would come to Hong Kong because of the higher salaries offered in order to repay the debt. I felt pressured as I was unsure how I was going to repay the debt and how long it would take. I was also looking for things I could do in my free time on Sundays. I was browsing on the Internet, and saw a Facebook advertisement for the “Lunch and Learn” at Enrich. I found it very interesting and knowledgeable, and so I continued to attend Enrich workshops.
With Enrich, I was able to pay off my debts within one year.
It's a pay-off, taking into account the hard work and separation from my family in order to increase my income.
My current financial goal is going back home in January 2019 for good. Now, I am managing an online business, a Kuripot store, which is a social enterprise. When customers buy from the Kuripot store, some items and payment will go to charity, and those charities will help others in the Philippines. I am so happy I am able to teach my children as well. I realize that saving money should begin from a young age, and we should instill this in our children. I am so lucky and happy and thankful to Enrich. Because of Enrich, I am able to go home sooner than I thought.
Note from Enrich: We’re pleased to tell you that Sheena returned home in 2019 and is managing her own successful online social enterprise.
